Preparation Of Wall:

Preparation Of Wall, Along The Wall, White WallPreparation of walls. For reasons of protection it is advisable to put a lining paper on the Wall before applying the finer papers. This protects the finished paper from absorbing discoloration from the plaster, and usually prevents the showing of cracks that may appear. Both the lining paper and finished paper should be applied with butt joints rather than overlapping joints.

Plain Wall painting. In the painting of interior plaster walls, there are three conditions that may exist: new walls; old walls that have already been painted; and walls that require the removal of wallpaper before paint can be applied. Plaster should be thoroughly dry before any attempt is made to paint it, and it is often wise to cover a plain plaster Wall with a coating of thin varnish, shellac, or size to prevent the chemical stains, which often develop in new plaster, seeping through the several coats of paint and causing a discoloration in the finish. Some painters prefer to apply a size after the first coat of paint has been completed. If there are cracks in a plaster wall—and they often occur in new walls' as well as old ones—the cracks should be "cut out" and "painted up," Cutting out means that the crack should be widened with a sharp tool so that the inside of the crack is slightly wider than its appearance on the surface. Filling up refers to filling the crack thoroughly with plaster. The fact that the crack is narrower on the Wall surface creates a safer binding for the patch. It is wdse to shellac the crack before the plaster filler is added. After adding the plaster, it should be smoothly trowelled, then sandpapered so that it is as smooth as the Wall itself, and finally shellacked again. Old walls should be washed with soda and water before the cracks are sealed. When old paint has fallen off, leaving depressions, these are usually "sparkled," or filled up with a special preparation which dries quickly and makes a very smooth patch when sandpapered. "Sparkled"areas must also be treated with shellac or size to prevent greater penetration of the paint than in surrounding areas.

See Also Along The Wall:

If cost is not a prime consideration, plaster walls should first be canvassed. This procedure excludes all possibility of visible Wall blemishes, and is permanent. along the Wall permanency is not to be overlooked in along the Wall final cost, as along the Wall canvas may be repainted many times without along the Wall necessity of patching along the Wall plaster. along the wallre are several different grades in canvas Wall coverings. Muslin and "Sanitas" make excellent surfaces for painting and may be applied to along the Wall wall with ordinary wallpaper paste.

Mural decorations need not necessarily cover every Wall in a room. It is often advisable to limit such paintings to important areas, such as an overmantel or one end of along the Wall room. Painted Decoration may also be concentrated over doors or in specified Wall panels. It is always well to use a low dado in a room where a paintedmmmmm.142 Decoration is to be intro-duced? so that no portion of along the Wall picture will be below a Table top or Sofa back. In small rooms it is possible to produce an impression of greater size through along the Wall use of perspective and atmospheric effects in a mural composition.

On The Other Hand See White Wall:

Ceilings may be calcimined or painted white or off-white. An agreeable effect is obtained if the ceiling is treated in a lighter tint of the color used for the walls. Increase in color interest may be obtained by painting the ceiling a color contrasting, either in hue or in value, with the walls. Ceilings that are painted in a color darker than the walls or treated in gold or silver leaf tend toward a modern effect. If a definite color is used for the ceiling, it should be repeated elsewhere in the Decoration of the room.Using two or more colors on the walls in the same room is always logical if the materials are different, such as wood panelling on one wall, and plaster on the other, or if one Wall is treated with wallpaper and the other with paint. A plaster Wall may be painted a different color than the woodwork. Where wallpaper is used in part of a room, it is advisable to paint the remaining plaster walls with the lightest and most neutral color used in the wallpaper. The Wall area can often be painted the wallpaper-background color, or even more neutral in chroma. Where all walls are to be painted, decorators may use two colors; the window Wall is generally painted in a lighter tonal value than the opposite wall. In a double-use room (living room-dining room) an apparent division is often made by painting the walls different colors, and indicating the different uses thereby. Walls should not arbitrarily be painted different colors, but may be if there is a logical reason for so doing.

This room has white walls and an off-white vinyl floor, creating a neutral, fresh backdrop. To stop it feeling drab or bleached out, two strips high up the Wall have been masked off then painted a cornflower blue. This makes the room feel wider and less like a corridor. The same blue is picked up in the tablecloth, while cheery cushions and accessories create little points of colour around the room.
