General Design: Bruno Mathsson (1907-1988) developed modernism in furniture design and architecture, addressing both general design and special problems in the design of furniture, interiors and buildings.
The general design problem. The planning of artificial lighting presents a problem that requires both practical and esthetic considerations. The average room needs light for general design illumination and special lights for particular areas or activities. The lighting equipment and fixtures must be consistent with the style of the decorations, must contribute to the desired character and atmosphere, and must be adequate for the purpose of the room. |
