Fitting Wall Units:

Fitting Wall Units, Synthetic Wall Materials, Arranged In Wall SpacesFresh white units with neat round handles give this room plenty of understated style. The units were bought unfinished and then primed and painted to help keep costs down. To make the most of the dead space underneath the base units, drawers were fitted. Rather than fitting Wall units the owners decided to sacrifice the storage to avoid overcrowding the space. Wall units either side of the window would have also reduced the amount of light and compromised the airy feel.

Bright shades like these are not for the fainthearted, but they give this room life and energy. The kitchen is one of the few rooms in the house where strong colour often works really well - units break up Wall space so you're rarely confronted with a whole Wall of colour. Here, the orange ties in well with the deep, honey-coloured pine units. Blue tiles that are as bold as the orange add more impact - pale tiles here might be dominated by the walls.

See Also Synthetic Wall Materials:

Among the permanent natural and synthetic materials that are used for the inside surfaces of exterior walls and partitions the following may be listed: sonry, Plywood, Wood veneers, Synthetic sheet materials.

Natural and synthetic Wall materials. There is a tendency today either through intention or unavoidable circumstance to find rooms in which the various walls and ceilings are made of two or more different materials. In many dwellings, certain portions of the interior walls are structural and built with permanent materials and must for reasons of economy remain as an element in the decorative treatment of the room in which they are located. Ceiling surfaces often vary from the walls due to the introduction of acoustical materials that have a rough texture. In modern planning, it is often possible to subdivide rooms by means of sliding or folding partitions that are made of materials that differ from the Wall surfaces. The popularity of built-in cabinets covering an entire Wall area, and glass Wall surfaces substituting for windows, add to the variability of walls in the same room. These features create a problem that did not exist to the same extent in historical types of rooms in which similar types of walls were pierced by doors and windows and compositional unity was attained by similarity of treatment on all four sides. The decorator must accept conditions such as these and must select and arrange the movable furnishings to harmonize with the permanent walls and partitions that have been installed by the builder of the house.

On The Other Hand See Arranged In Wall Spaces:

The Orientals frequently hang but one picture in a room, and that one, of great beauty, is hung in the most significant space and is changed from time to time for the sake of variety. If several pictures are hung on a wall, they should not be placed indiscriminately, but arranged in a simple geometrical grouping such as a rectangle straight line, or triangle. The more usual method of hanging pictures is to place them singly or in small groups in important Wall spaces or panels or above mantels or furniture.

Groups of three should usually be balanced with the largest picture in the center or two pictures should be of equal size. A better effect is obtained if the pictures in the same groups are similar in character and color value. Oil paintings and water colors hung in close proximity are usually inharmonious unless similar in tonal values, and colored pictures hung close to black-and-white drawings or reproductions have an appearance of inconsistency. Unsymmetrical groups of pictures may be arranged in Wall spaces that are not on the central axis of the room or in cases where pictures must accommodate themselves to adjoining furniture that is irregular in shape. Small pictures look best when hung at eye level. Large paintings that must be viewed from a distance may be hung at a greater height. It is advisable to avoid showing the wires necessary for picture hanging. Pictures should be hung from nails or hooks that are driven into the Wall behind the picture itself, and the picture should be hung as flat as possible against the wall. This can be done by placing the screws near the top of the frame.
