Travertine and Caen stone are the two stones usually imitated in plaster. Travertine is light brown in color and is filled with imperfections which appear as deep furrows on its surface. Caen stone is yellowish in appearance and exceptionally smooth. Real Travertine comes from Italy and Caen stone from Normandy. Both are used for walls and floors in public buildings and in semipublic rooms of residences, such as entrance halls and lobbies. Caen stone was used in 18th century French styles because of its softness and ease of carving. When it was used for exterior construction, however, the exposure to rain caused it to harden considerably.See Also Materials And Construction:In the best type of decorating work, upholstered furniture should be custom-made.
