See Also Interior Architectural Features:

It is essential for decorators to understand the structure and design of the interior architectural features that are covered by the word atrim." This term is applied most commonly to the woodwork in a room, but it may also refer to the ornamental details in formally designed interiors made of stone, marble, or other materials. The stone detail used for this purpose is usually similar to that of wood. In rooms of period influences, the tendency is to design the detail of the trim upon the customary classical architectural forms. In rooms that have plywood, synthetic, or built-in cabinet walls, the standard trim is often omitted as unnecessary, and the same is true when doors and windows are built with metal frames. It is then primarily in rooms based upon historical types where trim is used, and the term, in general, covers the following features: Door and window trim Baseboards, picture moldings, and chair railsDoors and windows Cornices and coves MantelsBuilt-in cabinetsDadoes, wainscots, and panellingFlooring

Lots of Glass, not Enough CashBrooklyn Public Library admitted last week that it is struggling to raise enough money to build a chic - and expensive - Visual and Performing Arts Library at Flatbush and Lafayette avenues in Fort Greene.Designed by architect-of-the-m oment Enrique Norten, the slinky, all-glass, ship-bow-shaped library will cost between $70 and $85 million."The biggest question right now is where we will find the money to build," said Brooklyn Public Library Executive Director Ginnie Cooper. To jumpstart the latest fundraising campaign, on Tuesday, the library had Norten show off tweaks in his well-received design to the library's board of trustees.
