Actress Designer Amanda: It's said that moving into a new home is the third most stressful life event, following death and divorce. Not so for actress designer Amanda-designer Amanda Pays and her husband, actor Corbin Bernsen.
"Amanda does the interiors, because she's amazing with color," says Bernsen, who was featured in the film "Kiss, Kiss Bang Bang" last fall and is also a regular on ABC's "General Hospital." "It's definitely a partnership. We love it. It's our favorite thing to do."See Also Designer Hannah:"It used to be that people bought a dog bed and it lasted the life of the dog," says Robert Moritz, who owns Puppies and Babies in L.A with his wife, designer Hannah Brand. "Now they like to redecorate and upgrade them more often. It seems like they're feeling a lot more comfortable being their own interior decorators."
High Gloss : Askew Interior Design by Karim RashidDesigner Karim Rashid may be best known for his blobby plastic product designs, but he has lent his talents to a growing number of striking interiors. This fall, he dressed Barbounia in feathers, and he has given Askew a playfully hip feel, with geometric graphics in bright fuchsia and green, and eye-catching details like a trick reversible menu. But flashy restaurants can run the risk of overshadowing their own food.At a place like Askew, where the designer is quite a few notches more famous than the chef, one might expect any substance to get lost under the glossy surface. One would be pleasantly surprised.
On The Other Hand See Interior Designer Jaffke:CONSIDER ROOM SIZE: "So many people will buy a TV that is way too large for the room," says Valencia interior designer Jaffke. A good rule of thumb for TV size that allows adequate space for seating is to take the diagonal measure of the TV (in inches) and multiply that number by three. Then divide it by 12 for the best distance from the TV (in feet) for viewing.
With the help of interior designer Pam Jaffke, they created a built-in media center, used a creative seating arrangement geared for both socializing and viewing, and installed concealed remote-control shades to darken the room at will."My husband thinks it's the coolest thing in the world because it's like James Bond," says Beth Manning of the shades they installed. "We're really happy with the whole room. It's sophisticated but comfortable."
